Doesn't fit properly

Doesn't fit properly. Fins needed shaved to fit in...then it sticks out and leaks...my husband is right now trying to use a washer to prevent the leak. Part is unreturnable....hoping we csn get it to work. Old part was all wire mesh...new part is nylon...sucks to have to waste time!!
